A containership has struck Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge while departing the port during the early hours of Tuesday morning. The bridge has subsequently collapsed with reports of significant casualties after several vehicles on the bridge fell into the water.
A Singaporean flagged ship, Dali, that operates between the US east coast and the Middle East and Asia, departed from the Port Breeze container terminal at around 0045 hrs local time and appears to have collided with the bridge at around 0130 hrs, according to Automatic Identification System data.
Reports are currently unclear on the extent to which Baltimore port operations have been impacted, but please expect delays and possible rerouting to vessels in the area.
