The government of Bangladesh has decided to lift the curfew on Wednesday 24 July between 10am and 5pm to allow people to shop for essentials. Offices will be operating between 11am and 3pm.
Internet connection is available only in limited areas and with very limited speed.
Impact of current situation on transport:
- Most air export shipments have been on hold since 19 July, with delays due to unavailability of customs documentation. Further delays are anticipated due to the backlog and shippers are being urged to secure space for the upcoming weeks as far in advance as possible.
- Container congestion at the port has led to operational complexities with an estimated 78% of the total storage capacity currently utilised. The CPA has adopted manual documentation as a part of its efforts to keep the port running, however there are limitations in tracing and completing final verification on some containers already within the port premises.
- Most garment factories in Chittagong have been operational since Tuesday 23 July but EPZ factories remain closed and will likely resume in the next few days.
- CFS: There are some issues with backlog. Some cargo is without stuffing due to carriers being unable to release bookings / containers because of a lack of internet connection.
We continue to monitor the situation closely. Our Customer teams will be in touch regarding any affected bookings.
