General overview: The situation in the Indian Subcontinent (ISC) and Bangladesh (BD) regions is notably challenging, exacerbated by port congestion and equipment shortages. Please see our latest update on the situation in Bangladesh, where curfews have been in place this week.
In Week 32, there was an original capacity cut of approximately 30%. However, an ad hoc vessel was introduced, mitigating the reduction and bringing the effective capacity reduction down to around 19%. Throughout August, the average capacity reduction is 17-19%. In Week 33, additional capacity is being supplied by CMA and Cosco, with an extra loader replacing the original planned blank sailing.
Looking ahead to August, September and October, significant capacity reductions of around 30% are anticipated for THE Alliance (including Hapag-Lloyd) due to the separation of this alliance and preparations for the Gemini network. In the meantime, the China Global Express (CGX) service will continue operating until Week 48 to facilitate the transitional period.
