We wish to inform you of ongoing challenges related to equipment availability across all carriers in Pakistan. Several factors have contributed to the current situation:
- A decline in import volumes: A general reduction in import activity into Pakistan has affected equipment availability.
- Extended transit times: Prolonged transit times are leading to increased equipment utilization and reduced availability.
- High demand in key markets: Elevated demand for equipment in major markets such as China and SE Asia are causing carriers to prioritise these locations, thereby depleting equipment supplies in Pakistan.
- Domestic payment and customs issues: Complications with domestic payments and customs procedures are delaying the return of empty containers, further exacerbating the shortage.
At Port Qasim, container availability is relatively low, the supply of empty returns and direct trucker services in Karachi port, SAPT, and Maripur areas is somewhat better. However, trucking movement restrictions within the city from 7 AM to 11 PM are contributing to delays. The average wait time at city yards has increased to approximately three days, leading to a nearly 50% rise in trucking rates.
Our team is actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates as they become available.
