Yesterday, dockworkers across India’s twelve largest ports declared an indefinite strike from August 28, 2024 following failed discussions over longstanding disagreements regarding wages and allowances.
Container transporters in India are also threatening a strike from August 20. This has been called in protest over charges they have to pay at Nhava Sheva Port. Further negotiations are due to take place today and tomorrow.
At this stage, our local India team are advising that they aren’t anticipating this strike to have a prolonged impact. These types of strikes happen regularly, and tend to last only a day or two. We’ll continue to monitor this situation closely and we’ll provide further updates over the coming weeks.
