A blank sailing is when a carrier cancels the call of a vessel, this may be to a specific port or the whole loop.
Normally when carriers cancel the call to a specific port it may be down to weather or operational issues at that port whereas if they cancel a whole loop it's likely they've got an issue with the vessel or they're managing their capacity to fully utilise the vessels.
Some times blank sailings can be at short notice meaning back up carriers are always good to have on hand.
