A transhipment port is where a shipping container is offloaded from one vessel onto another vessel at a specific port en-route to the final destination.
This typically adds lead time and risk of delays in shipping when comparing to direct schedules. This is because it adds complexity as both vessels have to be on time and physically has to be offloaded and loaded back on to a different vessel.
A typical transhipment port for China to UK shipments is Singapore.
