As we enter the 5th week of the lock down, the Government of Pakistan has announced an extension of until 28th April, however there has been a lot of flexibility offered to the next tier of essential providers e.g. barber shops, tailors, and plumbers.
Export based factories in some cities are allowed to continue to operate, however in Karachi factories must seek opening up permission from TDAP (Trade Development Authority of Pakistan), after they provide pending orders evidence to them.
Some clarity from local government is still pending, as some specific details were not covered during the press conference.
The port, airports, CFS and customs continue to operate without any problem, WWGC is working with staff on a shift basis and are fully available round the clock to handle shipments smoothly. However several vessels continue to skip Pakistan ports due to curfew in India, as most of the vessels calling Pakistan originate from Indian ports, which has led carriers to cancel several loops.
In terms of air freight, cargo freighters are still operative and EK, QR, TK and DHL aviation are operating several non-scheduled freighters.
Please note Ramadan will be starting from 24th April, which means officially less hours will be worked.
