2M line, Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC), will be increasing weekly capacity on the 2M Alliance-operated Asia/Mediterranean AE15/Tiger service during July and August, as the 2M lines move towards providing a service operating with a uniform fleet capacity of 19,000+ teu vessels . During July/August, MSC will deploy a further four 19,000+ teu vessels, to operate with seven vessels already operating on the service, and which along with four vessels in the 16,000/19,000 teu capacity bracket will switch service deployment.
The Korean shipping line HMM last week formally named the HMM ROTTERDAM, sixth of twelve scrubber-fitted 'megamax-24' container vessels that the Korean carrier HMM is scheduled to receive from compatriot yards DSME (seven units) and Samsung (five units) this year. The port of Los Angeles disclosed that its APMT operated Pier 400 terminal handled a total volume of 34,263 teu (or 18,465 moves) on the MSC ISABELLA, compared to the 30,744 teu (17,080 moves) that TTI Long Beach achieved on the MSC SVEVA earlier this month. Both records were achieved on megamax ships, whereby the 19,224 teu MSC SVEVA is a first generation MGX 23 vessel, compared to the 23,656 teu MSC ISABELLA, an MGX 24 of the latest generation.
