From the 1st of March, there are new laws coming into force for HGV vehicles entering London. The ‘London Direct Vision Standard’ as well as tougher new Low Emission Zone Standards.
This means older vehicles will no longer be able to enter the LEZ. It also means that all vehicles that enter the capital will have to be fitted with blind-spot cameras with in-cab monitors, along with audible turn indicators.
Suppliers across the industry have started to go through the considerable expense and work of having the additional kit fitted to all vehicles so they can continue delivering into the capital. However, there will be a percentage of dedicated subcontractors and owner drivers that will not yet have the required Euro 6 engines or the necessary equipment fitted to comply. This will mean less vehicles available in the market to cover work into London which means increased pressure on availability to London.
Suppliers will also be looking to increase London delivery costs as they look to recoup the expenses they have incurred fitting the new equipment. To this end from the 1st of March, we are expecting to see potential increases of up to £50 on top of haulage costs for London LEZ zoned deliveries.
