From 1st July, 100% of shipments departing from the US will need to be screened before being loaded onto aircraft. This follows new rules brought into place by the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
Currently, it is only a requirement for freight travelling in the belly of passenger aircraft, however the change in rules means freighter aircraft is also subject to the same requirement.
As such, all US exports will now be subject to a screening cost.
Usual forms of screening may not be suitable for some shipments, such as out of gauge shipments, which will not fit through x-ray machines, and certain commodities that cannot be hand searched.
With US handling agents already struggling with increased demand, shippers and forwarders have raised concerns that the new regulations will mean delays in uplifts.
