In response to the surcharges being placed on 40ft high cubes due to the current shortage, shipping lines have increased their rates.
As shippers look to maximise the capacity of their orders in containers, shipping lines have advised that they are able to assist with space and equipment on 40ft containers. However, due to lack of equipment available in the Far East, they have stated that high cubes will be more difficult to support bookings.
To avoid possible delays, shippers should therefore use standard 40ft containers where it is feasible.
Shipping lines say they are investing in new equipment, which will be fed into the market once available.
The impact of high rates is beginning to be seen on the high street and online, as well as in rising inflation, and it is hoped that governments will begin to apply pressure on shipping lines to reduce rates.
We continue to monitor the situation during this challenging time and will keep you updated. Please contact our Customer teams with any enquiries relating to specific bookings.
