According to figures released by Alphaliner, almost a quarter of scheduled port calls on Asia-North Europe alliance loops have been omitted in the last five months.
Those omissions – some of which could be considered “last minute” – have resulted in containers being off-loaded at ports not included in the original shipping plan as well as drawn out relay services. Reasons for the omissions, according to Alphaliner, include:
- Ad-hoc omissions due to limit delays
- The temporary removal of a call for several weeks
- Blank / ‘sliding’ sailings where voyages are pushed back a week
Across the ports of Rotterdam, Antwerp and Hamburg, 216 alliance calls were missed over the five-month period. Felixstowe, Southampton and London Gateway also saw significantly fewer calls than scheduled.
More positively, Alphaliner also reports that 77 extra inducement calls were made by the three alliances.
