In the wake of disruption caused by government-imposed lockdowns in Shanghai, more than 1,800 flights to and from Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) have been cancelled.
Shanghai’s city-wide lockdown has now been extended indefinitely due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases. This has resulted in further disruptions to cargo operations at PVG, as well as Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA).
Faced with rising fuel prices, long-haul flight rerouting and COVID-19 shutdowns, carriers have increased surcharges on air cargo shipments. In March, jet fuel prices rose after the invasion of Ukraine by Russia and following higher, more volatile crude oil prices.
