Following the deadly fire at a private inland container depot earlier this month, the Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) has taken steps to tighten fire safety measures, modernise storage of dangerous cargoes and speed up delivery.
The CPA has asked importers to get their hazardous chemicals released from the port within 72 hours of arrival – one of the measures the authorities have taken to ensure safe handling of dangerous goods or DG Cargo to prevent any kind of accident.
Vessel Berthing condition: 13 container vessels are waiting at outer anchorage. The que of vessels que is increasing at outer anchorage. The port is trying to recover the situation and minimize the number of vessels as well as waiting time at outer anchorage. At the same time due to import yard congestion, port yards are severely congested and vessels are struggling to discharge/load laden containers on time. This congestion is because of import containers pressure and slow import discharge from port through port is imposing the penalty. Because of heavy rainfall the port yard is fully congested and vehicle movements are slow. Also a daily que of trailers are waiting in front of vessels as the import discharge is impacted for both slow delivery and flooded yard.
