We have today received the below update from Hutchison Ports regarding Felixstowe strike action:
We very much regret that Unite the union has walked away from pay negotiations and announced strike action from 21st to 29th August and therefore we have removed all bookings during this period.
Further updates to follow tomorrow regarding extending our opening times in the lead up to the stoppages.
I appreciate this news, alongside the extended stoppages this morning, will be extremely disappointing.
What is the impact of this?
Please note we are now expecting significant disruption before, during and after the strike period. There is unfortunately a high likelihood of FXT containers being unable to be collected or delivered next week.
Given the potential market shift in volume from next week into the week after next, transport shortages are also expected in the week following the strike.
At present, we are waiting for further information from carriers regarding how they will proceed.
Our teams are working extremely hard to contact customers with affected bookings and mitigate the circumstances where possible. Your patience and understanding is very much appreciated, and we will be in touch with more information as soon as possible.
