The industrial dispute that Svitzer and the maritime unions have been embroiled in since 2019, the towage company has given notice of an indefinite lockout from 12:00 AEDT Friday 18th November. This will impact shipping operations at major metropolitan and regional Australian ports nationwide in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia,” Svitzer said in a statement.
Svitzer managing director Nicolaj Noes said “We have exhaustively negotiated in good faith to try to do this (new agreement),” he said. “We sincerely regret the difficulties and disruption this lockout presents to our customers and other stakeholders within the supply chain, including ultimately, every Australian consumer.”
